Outing to Chawton House Library and Jane Austen’s House Museum

Overview

In the bicentenary year of Jane Austen’s death we visit the cottage in Hampshire where she lived with her mother and sister for the last years of her life and where she wrote three of her novels. We will also have a tour of Chawton House, once owned by her brother Edward and now a library with a rare collection of 19th century books by female authors. Coffee and biscuits will be served.on arrival. Lunch may be bought at the local pub or Cassandra’s Cup, a cafe opposite the cottage - or bring a packed lunch.

Depart Riverside Coach Park (NB: not the Bus Station) at 8.30am Return 5.30pm approximately

 

Cost: £39 to include entry to both houses, coffee and coach
