Overview

Christopher Bruce’s masterpiece, Ghost Dances, is possibly the most popular work in Rambert’s history. It tells stories of love and compassion, as death – in the form of the iconic “ghost dancers” – interrupts the daily lives of a series of ordinary people. Created as a response to political oppression in South America, it uses imagery from the Day of the Dead and bewitching traditional music to create a moving, intensely human work.

Ghost Dances is presented in a triple bill, which also features The days run away like wild horses by Aletta Collins. Taking its title from a poem by Charles Bukowski, this is a witty and vivid depiction of the moments that make up a life, set to Arturo Márquez’s Danzones.

Completing the evening is Goat, a new dance theatre creation by rising star Ben Duke, inspired by the music and spirit of Nina Simone, with a selection of her best-loved songs performed live on stage.

All three pieces showcase the trademark quality of Britain’s national dance company, combining world-class dancing and live music to thrilling effect.
