JODIE PRENGER stars in
by Willy Russell, directed by Glen Walford
10 - 15 April 2017
The 30th Anniversary Production
Inside Mrs Joe Bradshaw, a 42-year old mother of two, is the former Shirley Valentine longing to get out. Her kids have left home and her days are an endless routine of making chips and egg for her husband while she talks to the kitchen wall. What happened to all that passion and potential?
Out of the blue, her best friend offers her a trip to Greece for two weeks and she secretly packs her bags. She heads for the sun and starts to see the world and herself in a diff erent light.
Willy Russell’s heart-warming comedy premiered in 1986 and took the world by storm, won a raft of awards and was adapted into an Oscar nominated film. Now, celebrating its 30th anniversary, Jodie Prenger plays the tour-de-force role in the first major revival of this national treasure.
Jodie Prenger performed extensively on the cabaret and musical circuit before winning I’d Do Anything on BBC TV which gave her the opportunity to play Nancy in the West End revival of Oliver!, a role for which she won the 2010 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. She went on to play The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Dolly in One Man, Two Guvnors in the West End, the title role in Calamity Jane and to star in Tell Me on a Sunday.
Willy Russell is one of the most celebrated writers of his generation whose work is regularly produced throughout the world. His credits include Educating Rita, Blood Brothers, One for the Road, Stags and Hens and Our Day Out.
