James Seabright presents JEFFREY HOLLAND and NICHOLA McAULIFFE in
Waiting for God
a new comedy by Michael Aitkens, directed by David Grindley
22 - 27 May 2017
Jeffrey Holland and Nichola McAuliffe lead the cast in this premiere stage production of the BAFTA nominated Waiting For God, which delighted television audiences in the 1990s. This all-new script is penned by the sitcom’s creator Michael Aitkens.
All the favourite characters from the original comedy series are reimagined for 2017, facing the challenges that come with growing old disgracefully in the era of the silver surfer.
At Bayview Retirement Home, battle-axe extraordinaire Diana Trent conspires with new resident Tom Ballard to give the conniving manager his comeuppance through a hilarious conspiracy with unexpectedly heart-warming results.
Jeffrey Holland is best known as Spike in Hi-de-Hi! He also created the stuffy footman James Twelvetrees in the popular Croft and Perry sitcom You Rang, M’Lord? and the starchy station master Cecil Parkin in Oh, Dr Beeching! His latest TV role is as tax inspector Clive Drinkwater in Coronation Street. On stage, his credits include many Ray Cooney farces, Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking and Confusions, Arnold Ridley’s The Ghost Train and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical comedy, By Jeeves.
Nichola McAuliffe won an Olivier Award for her role in the RSC’s Kiss Me Kate. On television she starred in Surgical Spirit, Coronation Street and Victoria. Recent stage work includes Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lady in the Van, Home and Maurice’s Jubillee, which she also wrote.
Tony Award winner David Grindley's directing credits include Journey's End and Sideways and Kafka’s Dick, A Steady Rain, Pygmalion and The American Plan in Bath.
