Draw Back the Curtain

Draw Back the Curtain

Overview

Join us for this behind-the-scenes tour of this beautiful Georgian theatre. Jane Austen was a frequent visitor to the theatre and had strong opinions about the plays she saw. Jane Tapley, the Special Events Organiser at the Theatre Royal, will recount some of Austen's visits and talk about the influence drama had on her novels. Sheridan, the great 18th century playwright said that Pride and Prejudice was the cleverest novel he had read partly because it was written like a play with a great deal of dialogue between the characters.
