Opera della Luna makes its debut in Bath with one of their most iconic productions.
HMS Pinafore is one of the greatest successes of the Gilbert & Sullivan partnership, and in Opera della Luna’s hands becomes a fast-moving, totally delightful, and hilarious re-creation of the original hit that took the UK and America by storm.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s satire of the British class system is set aboard the ship HMS Pinafore, where the captain’s plans for his daughter’s marriage go hilariously awry when she falls for a lower-class sailor instead of the First Lord of the Admiralty!
Packed to the brim with toe-tapping tunes, the wit and verve of this production is the perfect showcase for the talents of Opera della Luna, one of the UK’s leading exponents of operetta and comic music-theatre, and long-time favourites at the Iford Opera festival.
Gorgeous costumes, a chamber orchestra, and an ingenious and imaginative production make this an evening of musical delights not to be missed.
“This company is fast-approaching national treasure status” The Stage
“Opera della Luna has a brilliant track record for drawing the zest and pith out of the lighter repertory... its Gilbert & Sullivan is legendary.” Daily Telegraph
“No small scale opera company glitters more gloriously than Opera della Luna” Evening Standard
