Following the success of last season’s SONG recitals (Ian Bostridge, Julius Drake, Christine Rice, Sophie Bevan, Ryan Wigglesworth) Deborah Warner’s next season welcomes the return of the recital series with more of the greatest names in classical music performing in the enticing intimacy of the Ustinov Studio.
Iestyn Davies is a British countertenor widely recognised as one of the world’s finest singers celebrated for the beauty and technical dexterity of his voice and intelligent musicianship. Critical recognition of Iestyn’s work can be seen in two Gramophone Awards, a Grammy Award, a RPS Award for Young Singer of the Year, the Critics’ Circle Award and recently an Olivier Award Nomination. He was appointed MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours List 2017 for services to music. Recent appearances on the operatic stage include Arsace Partenope (Madrid), Ottone Agrippina (Hamburg, Munich), Bertarido Rodelinda (Metropolitan Opera) and Ottone L’incoronazione di Poppea (Versailles).
Born in Mexico City in 1998, Sergio Bucheli is a sought after continuo player. He is the principal lutenist of The English Concert, La Nuova Musica. He also plays with Les Arts Florissants, Arcangelo, Le Poeme Harmonique, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Early Opera Company, The Irish Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Marsyas, English Baroque Soloists and Fretwork. Sergio is also in high demand in the operatic world and works as a guest musician for the Royal Opera House, Opera National de Paris and Opera North. Sergio is a keen chamber musician and has collaborated with violist Lawrence Power and a variety of singers including Iestyn Davies, Mary Bevan, Ruby Hughes and Tim Mead.
